Happy Anniversary Sofilantjes

The Pattern Revolution Team extends our congratulations to Anne Jacobs of Sofilantjes (Shop & Facebook Group) for a successful two years in business and we are so pleased to have been asked to be a part of this amazing blog tour. We've been following Anne since her very beginning designs and it has been an incredible pleasure to work with her as her business grew from a small dream into an amazing reality. For anyone wanting to try Sofilantjes patterns, now is the time to stock up with this coupon; use code CELEBRATE for 25% off your cart excluding bundles. Speaking of celebrating, there is a huge giveaway at the bottom of this post and a new one each day of the tour! Here are Marnie and Rachel to share their Sofilantjes Mashups, enjoy!

Rachel's Mashup

It’s the 2nd Anniversary for Sofilantjes sewing patterns, and I’m super excited to be part of their anniversary blog tour. I’ve tested a few of Anne’s patterns and have sewn nearly all of them - they’re fun to sew, fit well, have great style, and unique details. For this mash-up, I decided to play with the pleated skirt from the Solis dress, which is a recent release. I made several Solis tunics and dresses during testing, but because of my daughter’s school dress code, she won’t be able to wear them to school. I love the look of that sweet pleated skirt (not something you find everyday in knit patterns!) and wanted to pair it with something she could wear for school.

Enter the Iridis dress - a versatile wrap dress pattern with views suitable for knits AND wovens. I opted to do the knit bodice, and made a few small modifications. First, I lengthened the bodice about 1.5 inches, so that it mirrored the length of the Solis bodice. Since the skirt isn’t gathered here, I needed to make sure that the width of the bottom edge of the bodice was equal to the width of the waist edge of the pleated skirt. The easiest way to do this was to lengthen the bodice and make sure it was tapered just a touch, matching the width of both pieces.

Also, the pattern calls for binding the crossover neckline, but since I wanted the bold geometric pattern from my skirt fabric to be more visible on the bodice, I did a band instead. I also added bands instead of hemming the gathered short sleeves, and love the finished look. I closed the side seams completely since this isn’t a true wrap dress, hemmed the skirt, and waited for my kiddo to wake up and try it on! There are truly so many possibilities for mixing and matching Anne’s patterns, and I’ve already got a few more in mind to try soon.

Marnie's Mash

Hi, It’s Marnie from Horris and Deedle here, and I’m excited to be representing the Pattern Revolution team for the Sofilantjes Patterns 2 Year Celebratory Pattern Mashing Blog Tour. I make it no secret that I am a bit of a Sofilantjes fan girl - I love the patterns, although I would like to one day know how Sofilantjes should be pronounced correctly, because I am pretty sure I don’t say it properly. Today I’m sharing with you a fast and easy pattern mash - The ADV Tee and The Gemini Skirt.

The ADVTee is a unisex V neck tshirt with options for long or short sleeve. I’m in Sydney, and we are about to round the corner into the much dreaded winter months, so I choose the long sleeve version. This is a slimmer fitting tee- but not too tight and it is perfect for layering under jackets and cardigans on cool mornings. I paired it with the Gemini skirt, which has two different options. I choose the slimmer more straight option and created a cute little dress, which once again, will layer well with tights and leggings as the temperature here continues to drop.

This was a very straight forward pattern mash. Here’s exactly what I altered.

  1. I cut 7cm off the bottom of the t-shirt to make it short enough to get sewn onto the skirt

  2. I ran the side seams in on the shirt 1cm extra on either side to make it a little more firm through the waist for joining the skirt.

  3. I halved the length of the skirt waist piece so that it was just a strip of material to sew through the middle.

  4. I added width to the skirt waistband to that it didn’t have to be stretched to fit onto the top.

I sewed up the top as per instructions, but did not hem it, and sewed up the skirt as per instructions and did not fold the waistband piece over when adding it to the skirt. Then I simply sewed the top of the waistband to the bottom of the shirt and it was all finished!! How easy is that?

This has created a cute little dress that will be perfect for winter. My daughter’s favourite thing is most definitely the pockets!

There are lots of exciting and wonderful prizes being given away during this celebration, so please follow the blog tour for your chance to win, and if you haven’t tried any Sofilantjes patterns (yep pretty sure I said that wrong in my head as I typed it then), I highly recommend them. Congratulations Anne and the team on reaching your 2 year milestone, and I look forward to what the next two years will bring.

Thanks for reading along,

Marnie
