Happy Anniversary to Dad and Mom

Happy Anniversary to Dad and Mom

Welcome! My parents have an anniversary coming up, and I wanted to get a card in the mail to them before I left for Anaheim for a few days. I found this Flourishes Lenten Rose image in my "pieces of projects started" bin, and it had already been fussy-cut with a Spellbinders Labels Twenty Nine die template.

If you already know how to fussy-cut with a die, you may want to skip this paragraph. I stamp my image first, them lay my die template on top of the image to decide exactly where I want the image to extend past the border of the die cut. Next I use a couple of pieces of scrap cardstock between the blade of the die and the surface of the image where I want to protect the image from being cut. I send it through my die-cutting machine, and then I hand-cut the extending parts. I always do this BEFORE I color an image, just in case something gets cut that I didn't mean to be cut. Make sense? On to coloring then!

Here I have colored my greenery with Copic Sketch markers. I went back in at the end and darkened some of these values though. :-)

Here I have added glass and a hint of shadow at the bottom.

Here are the flowers and buds--mostly pink, but with yellow in the centers and green on the buds. I used a feathering technique to blend the pink and green to avoid getting muddy color.

And here is a detail of the finished card, 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". The Spellbinders Labels Twenty Nine was used to cut the focal image (explained in the second paragraph), an On the Edge die template was used to cut the row of hearts at the bottom of the card, and a Charmed I'm Sure tag die was used for the Mom and Dad tags (JustRite stamps). Patterned paper: is from a Melissa Frances 5th Avenue 6 x 6 pad, and I dyed the seam binding with Copic R30 and colorless blender. A bit of sanding, distress inking, and stitching, and that's it--pretty straightforward! Thank you for visiting today,

Debbie
