On this day in 1992, Aladdin first came to theaters. We instantly fell in love with the characters, the music, the way that Jafar manages to incorporate tons of puns into everything he says at the end of the movie. Now that we’re older, Jasmine tends to remain the biggest style influence from the film, but in honor of Aladdin’s anniversary, we’re trying an outfit based on the “street rat” himself, without the tiny hat and billowy pants of course.
For the base of the outfit, we went to Aladdin’s tried and true white/purple color palette. Not everyone can pull this one off, but in light of the recent white jeans trend, we think it might be possible. Instead of a vest, we opted for a basic purple tank (Asos), which can easily be paired with a neutral cardigan (Acne). Aladdin has a red belt, but in all seriousness, it’s probably not wise to wear purple and red right next to one another, so we opted for a pop of red at the bottom of the outfit instead.
True, Al doesn’t wear jewelry, so we channeled the Genie with this gold Sperry belt and simple hoop earrings. To represent Aladdin’s pal Carpet, we chose a scarf with a cool pattern, sans fringe. To finish it off, we obviously had to find a vintage magic lamp charmed necklace, a must-have for any Aladdin-inspired outfit.
